Les Gets MTB

Les Gets sits at 1190 metres above sea level in the Haute-Savoie region of the French Alps, the resort first opened its lifts for skiing back in 1938 with a single-person chair lift, in 1954 they also opened a lift on the Mt Chery side over the road from the main town. Mountain biking is huge in Les Gets, world-class events such as Crankworx arrived back in 2016, only making way for the re-introduction of the World Cup in 2019. Crankworx, a multi-discipline mountain bike festival involving downhill, slopestyle, dual slalom and more is a week-long two-wheeled party. It had a 3-year residency in Les Gets from 2016 - 2018.
 

Les Gets and the larger Portes du Soleil will also host the first UCI Mountain bike world cup 10-day festival from 06-17th September 2023. This also sees extended lift opening dates and a UCI DH World Cup returning to Les Gets. The World Cup in Les Gets is always a favourite and has produced some of the best racing dramas in downhill mountain bike history. From the mud fests of the 90s to the epic battles between the French and Steve Peat, one of which ended in heartache for the British legend and the other in glory. Since the return of the World Cup to Les Gets it's been eagerly awaited by the riders, with the 2019 winner Amaury Pierron showing insane speed and commitment on his way to victory, followed by Loic Bruni winning the rainbow stripes at the 2022 World Champs, and Benoit Coulanges rounding out a trilogy of French winners in Les Gets 2023.
 

Les Gets has recently had a resurgence in visitors flocking to the resort for mountain biking and adventure holidays, partly due to its reputation as a mountain bike mecca but also due to new trails. These new trails range from relaxed family green’s and blues that wind down the Les Gets side of the hill into the village itself to the new Les Gets Double Black Jump Line on Nauchettes with some huge jumps, drops and berms to test the most advanced riders who come to visit the Portes du Soleil.

The Les Gets side of the valley has some great MTB trails ranging from Downhill to Enduro with a bit of everything thrown in between. Some old local mountain bike trails have now been made official by the Les Gets bike park owners, the most famous being Le Canyon, this is a root-filled, wet gully that runs from halfway down the Chavannes ski piste to Les Gets village. If you take the main Chavannes Express lift up and then ride across to the Nauchettes Express lift you then have a whole new area to ride your bike also. 

The other side of Les Gets is Mt Chery, with an update Airline trail, sponsored by Oakley. With Mont Blanc as its backdrop, this trail has big drops, big gaps and immense flow. Airline then connects to Dans Le Gaz, an icon of Les Gets Mountain biking. 

The most famous trail is the 3km La Roue Libre red, or mainline descent which has many table tops, jumps, berms and some flat-out fast sections but also quite a few braking bumps so hold on tight. There is a new blue run called Tomawak (often mistakenly called Tomahawk) which has many medium-sized jumps and some really good flow that runs from the top of the Chavannes to the midsection of the hill, great for practising those jumps.

If you fancy some big air then head over to the jump park on the Nauchettes bowl accessed via the Nauchettes express lift, there you will find some good drops, jumps and wall rides. The new Jump Line is huge and only ride it if you have checked it out first, it's not for simply the brave you need some skill for this one

Les Gets is a great mountain bike resort and likes to cater for adults and kids, in 2014 a kids zone was set up in the centre of the village with ladders, drops and many other obstacles for the kids to tackle on their mountain bikes in Les Gets. There is also now an all weather pump track in the village which is used by everyone for fun and pump track racing, to complement the pump track built for the last Crankworx event, near the lake.

One of the best recent developments in Les Gets is the new coaching track developed by multiple World and European downhill champion Fabien Barel. The MTB trail tries to combine all features and technical elements of many trails you can encounter which riding your bike in the alps. It allows beginners and intermediate riders to learn specific MTB techniques such as breaking, jumping, taking raised corners,  the coaching track is on the Ecureuils green trail in the Chavannes area.
