MTB biggest competition is coming to Morzine. Its about time, with Morzine and Les Gets having the best DH trails in the alps and then great space to build new trails and Slopestyle courses. Also having played host to a world cup Les Gets is more than qualified to host.
Crankworx is coming to Les Gets on the 15-19th June 2016, the resort has just secured the world famous Mountain Bike event for the next three years stealing it from Les2Alps. Crankworx is now in its fifth year and growing in size and fame every year.
We are so excited so see the world best athletes grace the dirt of Les Gets and Morzine in June 2016. But what does this mean for the resort of Les Gets and its link with Morzine and the whole Portes Du Soleil?
Lets see what Crankwork official guys have to say first
"Les Gets, France - Heading back to France for its fifth year, Crankworx Les Gets stakes a claim for mountain biking in France, the global centre of cycling. This is where the aeronautic tricksters, speed freaks and enduro maestros get to play in a verdant Alpine oasis known for its role in establishing lift-accessed mountain biking. Long a host of major competitive mountain biking events, including a UCI World Championship, Les Gets is one of 12 resorts on the Porte du Soleil, a lift-fuel touring destination straddling the French and Swiss border, and it is considered a top international riding venue the whole family can enjoy. Just one hour from Geneva, Switzerland, it is easily accessible for fans and a hotspot for British riders who regularly vacation in the picturesque valley."
With an event like Crankworx set to be held in Les Gets we can only presume they have got a lot of work to do, espically building the freestyle course and DH track. There have been rumous of €250000 being allocated to the event and a new Slopestyle and DH course being built but this is all hearsay, also lets hope they have time to build the tracks and course before the 15th June as the ski season only ends in April!!!
This event will surly put Les Gets back on the MTB map and we really hope they will open the full Portes Du Soleil lift system for the dates of the event if not for the weekend before, there is so much scope for early riding in the Portes Du Soleil and Morzine in June that it needs to happy. Come on guys open those lift on the 11th June 2016 not on the Passportes event weekend. This event will surly have a huge impact on the tourist for Les Gets also which has really dropped over the past years after the resorts glory years with the World Cups etc.
Lets hope Les Gets looks like this next June - WOW!!!
