I remember my first set of decent flat pedals. For years shins had been destroyed and skate shoes had been lost to the old BMX style bear trap style flats that were the best option for those of us that didn't want to be clipped in. These were years before Five Ten and a time when many did switch to SPD's just so we could stay attached to the bike.

The V12 changed that. The first V12 was a vital part of many riders progression in that era, with a decent sized, solid, ergonomic platform, removable pins and serviceable axle.

DMR was founded in 1995 by Damian Mason and Matt Ryley, whose initials gave the DMR it's name, Damien & Matt Racing. They drew inspiration BMX brands and their products and wanted to bring them to the mountain bike market. For years flat pedal riders had suffered, it was a huge gap in the market as it also existed during the birth of what we might call freeriding.

Racing has long been dominated by the clipless pedal and still is, but there was nothing good to the amateur racer, freeride hucker or mountain bike dirt jumper that wasn't using BMX cranks. Their simple approach and genuine interest in product design took them down a path that put them at the forefront of the industry.

Though the brand has remained humble to it's grimey, raw UK dirt jump roots, it's now diversified into producing everything from handlebars to enduro bikes, and has just released it's first clipless pedal.

DMR's Vault pedal

We've been running DMR's before their support in MTB Beds and are delighted to continue doing so. The latest generation of Vault's are class leading, despite all the competition now in the market this pedal is still the go to for us and many in the scene, including long time riders Brendan Fairclough and Andreu Lacondeguy who boast signature models.

Aosta, the focal point of the vast, stunning mountain scape that makes up the Aosta Valley. It's not only a beautiful landscape, it's a stunning city filled with culture, great food, good people, cool bars, Roman ruins and the hustle and bustle of a cosmopolitan city.

It's a large city that's geographically quite spread out, with several different lieu-dits or suburbs. But the actual town centre itself is small, walked in under 15 minutes and all sprawling off the same cobbled streets that was the centre of this Roman gateway town centuries ago.
