A buzzing ski resort packed full of restaurants, bars and alpine culture, Morzine's restaurant scene was once a fairly drab affair in Summer, owners preferring to take the time off or open softly with a minimal menu and hours. Not so now with Summer offering new opportunities, new ingredients, new menus and new, sunny terraces breathing new life into the town. This is driven by the young generation of Morzinoise and British owners who are ready to move with the times.

From fast food to long lunches, burgers to duck confit, you'll find something to cure that hunger. Read on below to see what we consider to be the best of Morzine's restaurant scene in the summer.

Le Bec Jaune

If you're British, the pub is part of your DNA. The French tend to be more bar than pub, more Ricard and vin blanc than ale and stout. Le Bec Jaune opened in 2014 and became Morzine's first public micro brewery and very quickly the second home of most of Morzine's cool crowd, the attraction being the great beer, friendly staff starring some of Morzine's best known figures and a short, funky menu. It's full of made from scratch items (they make their own burger buns) that rotates exciting elements of food culture from France, South and Central America, India and the UK with nods to Asia along the way. Pair that with an ever changing selection of beers on tap, good music and a comfy, stylish old school interior and you've got yourself a local hangout!

O Chalet

O Chalet is the trendy to Burger Places traditional. We can't decide which one we prefer and that's great, more burgers for us as each has it's own thing. O Chalet is based on a modern American burger diner, with brioche buns, substantial patties, curly fries (optional), local beers on tap and cool serving trays with red and white chequered paper all adding to the feel and ambience. The staff are mighty friendly and bi-lingual, the burger menu is long, loads of options such as wraps and hot dogs.

Burger Place

The famous Pleney burger. A Morzine classic, traditional and simple, which is what makes it so great. In a world consumed by brioche, the seeded bun, thin, fresh beef patty cooked rare and served with their own onion relish and classic burger cheese. This is Morzine's fast food original. You can also grab a tuna, veggie or chicken burger, bacon roll for brekkie or freshly made sandwich, aswell as the ultimate soft serve ice cream. Every lunchtime you'll see bikes stacked up outside, the place full of hungry riders.

Satellite Coffee

Satellite Coffee is the place to go during the day for solid breakfast, a good sandwich, a healthy poke bowl and of course a decent flat white. The latter being a rare thing in France let alone Morzine. It's one of the best places to go if you are a veggie or vegan aswell, there is always something on the menu that caters for you. With freshly baked cakes and treats it's got the role of coffee hangout and modern diner covered. It's the place you'll see every pro mountain biker from Aaron Gwin to Greg Minnaar eating at when in town, loving the fresh, healthy menu. Though you can get a traditional sausage and egg butty so don't get too worried by the hispter sounds we've been making so far.

Cuisine 22

Cuisine 22 sits in the old Mamma's building, replacing the the perennial Morzine go to for fast food with a similar concept, but a menu that reaches much further and uses quality ingredients in a modern offering that wouldn't be out of place in a foodie city. Great pizza and curries sit along signature taco's. Sip a local beer while you wait for your order to take home or dine in.

Hideout Hostel

Hideout bar has found it's niche, a small, considered menu of sharing bites such ad dim sums and tempura broccoli with a selection of noodle and curry dishes when wanting something larger. Great for groups looking to share and socialise or for a couple looking for something beyond fromage.

L'Etale

L'Etale is the throbbing heartbeat of the Morzine restaurant scene if sheer numbers is anything to go by. Always open and nearly always busy with hungry punters, it's a jack of all trades, performing it's duty to find something for any diner to fill up on, well. At anytime during the morning you'll go past and find the busy waitstaff deep cleaning or setting up for the day, a reassuring testament to professionalism.

On the menu you'll find everything from pizza to steak, pasta to pad thai, mussels to tartiflette. A daily specials board and decent drinks selection makes this the go to if you don;t know what you want but want to trust where you're going, want quick service and not an astronomical bill.

La Ferme de la Fruitiere

Cheese. Cheese. Cheese. La Ferme de la Fruitiere is all about the stuff. You can even tuck into your fondue surrounded by the stuff if  you dine in their cellar, though in summer you'll want to sit in the lovely garden. Rated in the Michelin guide it's no doubt the place to go for traditional Haute Savoie cuisine in Morzine. It's not cheap, but the quality is there and be reassured they know what thye do, and do it well. Cheese.

There is a solid menu offering none dairy dishes, red meat, fish and vegetarian dishes maybe few in number but honest and solid in execution, cooked and served in a classical French manner. The go to with the parents or the special night out with the other half.

Le Clin D'eoil

Hidden in a car park on the way to Carrefour supermarket in the centre of town Le Clin D'eoil is an old school Morzine favourite. Focusing it's menus on Southern France and the local area of the Haute Savoie. Think cassoulet and lots of things with duck! It's also the best place in town to get a hot stone, raclette or fondue, if you want to immerse yourself in the full French experience.

The hot stone, raclette and fondue are all about the social experience rather than the idea of having the chefs create one plate for you. It's all about sharing, conversation and bringing people together. Unless you are taking your mortal enemy out for dinner you're guaranteed a good laugh trying to cook your meats on the scolding hot stone.

La Chaudanne

Le Chaudanne, found just outside of Morzine's town centre this restaurant is worth the 5 minute walk if your after an up market French restaurant experience. A lovely building with a large outside terrace, you'll find the largest selection of seafood on offer in a Morzine eatery, with dishes like skate with lemon and capers and roasted cod sitting next to classic French numbers such as beef fillet and lamb shank.
