Morzine mountain biking is world famous. The area is known for its extensive trail network with some of the best Downhill and Enduro trails in the world. This recognition as one of the best mountain biking destinations in the world was cemented when the first world cup races were held just over the hill in Les Gets back in the early 90's. Portes du Soleil mountain biking really became famous when Steve Peat secured the world cup overall in Les Gets in 2004. The area was renowned for its steep, technical and occasionally very wet trails, therefore perfect for hosting the biggest downhill mountain biking event in the world. The Maxxis wet scream was designed for the races in Les Gets and Morzine and trust us, we still use them, when it’s not 35 degrees and sunny.
Morzine is located in the northern French alps, in a region of France called the Rhone Alps. Some might know it better as part of the Portes du Soleil. In the past, Morzine was a small French mountain village frequented by the French locals from surrounding towns and villages for walking and hiking in the summer. That was until Easyjet started flying to Geneva in the 90’s. Now Morzine is a large town with a permanent population during the summer and winter months. During the winter months the English make up the majority of the tourists and the summer is now much the same.

With this extensive lift and trail network it really does make Morzine more a must for any level of mountain biker out there. Be it with the lads, the family or friends there is a track and a trail for everyone. Morzine is well known for it's super steep, fast and technical terrain and that is what initially put it on the map and is still what brings many of the world’s best Downhill mountain bikers back to Morzine for training and simple fun year after year.
However over recent years things have started to change as the resort has realised it not all about the steep stuff, now Chatel is leading the charge for the Slopestyle riding with some unbelievable jump/berm tracks and Les Gets with its ever growing Green and Blue family/coaching trails. The beauty of staying in Morzine accommodation is that you really are in the middle of this huge MTB mecca and can pick and choose what terrain you want to ride dependant on ability, weather, equipment and simple personal preference. If it rains, go to Les Gets, it's hard pack trails drain the water quickly. If the sun is blazing head out for the day over to Switzerland and up the Mossettes lift to the highest peak in the Portes du Soleil at 2400m.
